Sui 581-618 AD

The Sui Dynasty, lasting from 581-618 A.D, lasted only two emperors. The first Emperor was Wendi, who declared himself the Emperor. The greatest accomplishment of the Sui dynasty was the completion of the Grand Canal, which opened new opportunities for trade and expanded the economy. About a million peasants labored for five years to dig the 1,000 mile canal and thousands more slaved away and died rebuilding the Great wall, which led to the end of the dynasty. The people eventually grew tired of the constant toil and taxing and revolted, assassinating the second Sui Emperor.
