Srivijaya (600s-1200s)
Srivijaya rose in the 600s and fell in the 1200s. It grew very wealthy by taxing passing trade ships. They established their capital on Sumatra, which became a center of Buddhist learning, where many monks studied rather than traveling to India.
Modern Southeast Asia
India is a part of Southeast Asia. It is known for its long monsoon seasons. It has a lot of arable land and many rare elements and iron ore. Indonesia is an island country in Southeast Asia. It is prone to floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, and droughts. Some natural resources are precious metals, petroleum, tin, natural gas, and fertile soils.
